Long Conversations and the Closet Orchestra is an indie band from Leiden, Holland, started as a solo-project in 2007 by singer-songwriter Olaf Caarls (guitar,
vocals, harmonica). After growing into a four-piece band (adding drums, bass, and cello) LCATCO won the Grote Prijs van Zuid-Holland, played in the traveling Popronde festival, and made it to the finals of the Grote Prijs van Nederland, playing to a sold-out Paradiso. Long Conversations has played many shows in the Netherlands, most of them in small bars and people’s living rooms, but also supported Dutch band a balladeer in Tivoli (Utrecht) and De Nieuwe Nor (Heerlen), and sometimes even transform into a full rock-and-roll band for shows in Leiden’s LVC. Caarls played a few solo shows in the US (Austin, San Francisco, New York, a.o.) and in the spring of 2010 the band went on their first European tour, through Switzerland and Italy. In 2007 Caarls released a solo EP (“Groningen”) followed by the band’s first full-length, “The Getaway”, in January 2009. They are currently working on their second album.

Long Conversations and the Closet Orchestra ist das 2007 ins Leben gerufene Soloprojekt des Holländers Olaf Caarls. Mit Long Conversations verbindet Olaf Singer and Songwriter Musik mit Indie-Pop Klängen beeinflusst von Künstlern wie Ryan Adams, The Arcade Fire oder Belle and Sebastian. 
Wie es ein Song erfordert, spielt der Musiker entweder allein oder lässt sich von anderen Musikern mit Bass, Schlagzeug, Klavier, Cello oder Trompete begleiten. 
Für Olaf steht das durch einen Song transportierbare Gefühl im Mittelpunkt seiner Musik, was seine Shows umso interessanter und emotionaler für sein Publikum werden lässt. Im Jahr 2009 veröffentlichte Caarls sein erstes Album The „Getaway“ unter dem Label Minderbinder Music. Laut Kritikern besitzt Caarls die 
„Fähigkeit eine melancholische Atmosphäre zu schaffen“ und durch seine Texte „eine faszinierende Welt zu kreieren“.
